Rafael Alonso, Head of our Spanish offices, has a large and reputed professional experience in providing legal advice to national and international clients.
His primary practice is Corporate Finance. He regularly advises his clients on M&A deals, general corporate work, restructuring and group reorganizations, joint ventures, transactional work, etc.
He has also developed a vast experience within the real estate sector, advising to developers of different type of projects, investors and real estate funds, constructors, engineers and other players.

Partner and Director
Civil Engineer with 17 years’ experience as infrastructure technical advisor. Expert in PPP advisory services, his approach goes beyond the technical engineering knowledge, with special attention to commercial and financial issues, regulatory and institutional aspects and social and sustainability drivers.
Professionally registered in Spain and the UK. Worked in major infrastructure projects in the transport, urban development, tourism and water sectors. Previously worked in MWH (now part of Stantec) and Scott Wilson (now part of AECOM) as civil engineer, project manager and technical director.
Experience in major projects in over 20 countries in Europe, America, Middle East and Southeast Asia. Provided advisory services to developers, contractors, operators, lenders, governments and multilateral development institutions such as the Asian Development Bank and UN Habitat. From 2013 to 2015 he was Team Leader of the infrastructure PPP project development facility in Indonesia (IRSDP). International Medal of the UK Institution of Civil Engineers in 2016.
Currently Partner and Director at Solvere, based in Madrid.
Paloma Martino is Technical Director and ERM Iberia Transaction Services Practice Leader, based in the ERM Madrid office. She has a PhD in Ecology and over 25 years’ experience in the environmental, social and health & safety field in Spain, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Paloma has managed and carried out more than 500 due diligence audits for a variety of financial clients including private equity (PE), multi-lateral financial institutions, and commercial banks as well as trade clients of all industrial sectors. Her experience include applying international financial standards such as the IFC Performance standards and EBRD standards in different projects for financial institutions (World Bank, EBRD, EU and commercial banks) as well as working with different private equity clients, such as Carlyle, KKR, Doughty Hanson, Bridgepoint, Cinven, GED Capital, 3i, MCH Private Equity, Magnum Industrial Partners, Realza Capital, Miura Private Equity, ProA Capital, Diana Capital, Ergon Capital, among others, in projects varying in scope from ESG policy development to private equity ESG due diligence. Prior to joining ERM, Paloma worked as water pollution control consultant in Latin America and Caribbean countries for the World Health Organization (PAHO) based in Lima, Peru.
Rafael has sixteen years of experience in Transport Planning and has worked for both the private and public sectors in Europe, in the Americas and in the Middle East. Rafael has wide experience on technical and commercial transport infrastructure due diligence assignments for buy, sell and fund sides. Rafael’s experience also includes transport strategy and assessments, including demand forecasting for transport infrastructure PPP projects.
Rafael is Civil Engineer by training and is currently an Arup Associate based at Madrid office.

Started professional career at Ferrovial S.A. as site manager for highways construction (2001- 2004).
General Manager of Itinere Chile S.A. which was the first toll road concession company in Chile until Sacyr decided to sell it back in 2009. (2007-2009).
CFO and Corporate Development Director at Sacyr Concesiones S.L., the concessions division of Sacyr after divesting in Itinere. More than 30 assets in 6 different countries. (2009-2012).
Development and Technical Director at SEITT S.A., public company 100% owned by the Spanish government (2012-2018) focused in developing PPP projects and managing toll roads. Also been appointed as:
– Spanish delegate for the European Toll Committee
– EPEC member (European PPP Expertise Centre)
– AXIS Investment committee member (ICO’s infrastructure fund)
