The UK Infrastructure Policy & Investment Summit

Start Date: 13 Jul 2020 08:15am

End Date: 14 Jul 2020 05:15pm

Location: Birmingham

The Prime Minister confirmed in parliament that the whole of the HS2 rail scheme will go ahead. The scheme, which is the largest infrastructure project in Europe, is set to cost some £106 billion, based on the most recent assessment. A new minister and ministerial oversight group will be established to manage delivery and contain costs, without there being any further redesign. There will be new ‘delivery arrangements’ in relation to Euston and for the HS2 extension to Leeds and Manchester. Mr Johnson also announced a wider package of infrastructure investment, including £5 billion for improved bus services over five years.

HS2 and today’s other infrastructure announcements will be analysed in detail at City & Financial Global’s 17th Annual UK Infrastructure Policy & Investment Summit, which is being held in Birmingham on 30-31 March, shortly after the Budget and the publication of the National Infrastructure Strategy. The strategy itself will also be a major focus of the panel of expert speakers.

Highlights of the conference also include the following keynote addresses:
• Implementing the National Infrastructure Strategy: The Rt Hon Jesse Norman MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury
• Reforming project delivery to support the National Infrastructure Strategy: Nick Smallwood, Chief Executive Officer, Infrastructure and Projects Authority
• Moving towards sustainable infrastructure: James Richardson, Acting CEO and Chief Economist, National Infrastructure Commission
