Trends and Opportunities in Financing the Energy Transition

Find out what was discussed – download the event summary from our event held on Wednesday 10 April 2024 in Amsterdam (Scroll down for link)

What was the event about?

Over the next two decades approximately €200-350 billion investment is required for infrastructure for the energy transition in the Netherlands to achieve the climate goals of 55% emission reductions by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050. Since public sources of financing will not be enough to meet the climate targets, there is a significant investment gap presenting opportunities for the private sector including institutionals, private equity and financial institutions. For some projects, the government may need to step in. Our panel discussed where the opportunities lie for each of these and how these types of financing interact.

Discussion Topics:

– Role the traditional banking sector can play, opportunities and risks
– Private and institutional funds involvement, teaming or competing?
– Support of governments and public authorities needed?
– Project structuring and how to mitigate bottlenecks to get to FID

With thanks to our speakers:

– Willem Stitselaar, Partner, DevCap Infra (Moderator)
– Jesse Hettema, Netherlands and Belgium Market Lead, Aurora Energy Research
– Anne Mieke van der Werf, Business Development Director, Invest NL
– Dennis Schiricke, CEO and Founder, Semper Power
– Martijn Snip, Head of Sustainable Business Development, RaboBank
