Biodiversity in Infrastructure – What Is Being Done By The International Community?
The world’s stocks of natural assets such as plants, animals, water, soil, and minerals are known as Natural Capital. Over the last few years there has been a greater awareness of the role Natural Capital plays in underpinning our economy and society. With this greater awareness of the benefits of Natural Capital, society has taken a greater interesting in trying to understand, minimise and in some case reverse the impact of human activity on the environment.
This 5-minute video introduces biodiversity, discusses why biodiversity should be on the agenda and explores what is being done by the international community.
Post recording update: The Biodiversity Net Gain requirement introduced by The Environment Act 2021 came into effect 12 February 2024 following a delay to the timeframe referred to in the video.
