Laura Huomo

Partner - Real Estate & Infrastructure Group, Bird & Bird, Nordics

Laura is a partner in the Real Estate & Infrastructure Group in Helsinki, heading the Energy practice. In addition, Laura works with the Corporate and M&A Group with equity and debt related transactions.

Laura has 20 years of experience working for both Nordic and international law firms. Laura works with energy companies, municipalities, municipality owned companies and governments to navigate successful solutions within the energy transition. Laura assists clients with regulatory issues, project structures, legal risk matrixes and energy related M&A activity.

Further, Laura advises companies with their initial public offerings, shares issues and rights offerings as well as debt issues. To Laura's delight, energy companies are also looking into tapping into the capital markets as part of their strategic planning, and in those transactions, Laura can combine her two strongest areas, energy and capital markets expertise to the benefit of clients.

Having followed both the energy sector and the capital markets for two decades, Laura can bring strong execution certainty to the constantly moving energy space. In cooperation with clients, Laura makes strategies for successful projects and aim to always be two steps ahead in making the project structure flexible enough to stand the changes in the developing energy regulation. I assist new companies just starting their life as public companies, first maturing their corporate structures to meet the requirements of a public company and taking on the responsibilities of a listed company, and then supporting them through the actual listing process and their future status as stock listed companies.

I was seconded to the Nordic Investment Bank early in my career where I was involved in a large international project finance transaction. Working for a financial institution gave me a great opportunity to learn how financiers think and what are the building blocks of a successful infrastructure project. I was also seconded to Baltic Connector Oy, a government owned company which was responsible for the construction of the Balticconnector pipeline between Finland and Estonia and was very much involved in the opening of the Finnish gas markets. At Baltic Connector, I was responsible, as their chief legal officer, for the legal aspects of the construction of the pipeline and the related agreements.
