Brian Sedlak from Jones Day, joins our Branch Council in the United States

We are pleased to welcome on board Brian Sedlak, Partner at Jones Day, as a new member of our Branch Council in the United States:

We asked Brian a couple of questions:

  • If you could personally change or influence one thing within infrastructure and/or energy, what would it be?

Brian: I would like to see greater alignment between the urgency of our infrastructure and energy needs and the pace at which projects move from concept to reality. Throughout my career, I have worked on projects that can deliver meaningful economic, social, and environmental benefits, but too often they face years of uncertainty before construction can begin. If we can create more predictable pathways for responsible development while continuing to engage communities and protect important interests, we can unlock investment and deliver the infrastructure that future generations will depend on.

  • Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to yourself at the start of your career?

Brian: Focus on relationships as much as technical expertise. Early in my career, I thought success would be driven primarily by mastering the law and the details of a transaction. While those things matter, the most rewarding opportunities have come from trusted relationships built over time. I would also tell myself to be open to unexpected opportunities. Some of the most interesting projects and experiences in my career were not part of any long-term plan—they came from saying yes to something new.

  • What do you hope to bring to the United States Council?

Brian: I hope to bring the perspective of someone who has spent his career helping clients navigate complex projects that sit at the intersection of infrastructure, energy, real estate, and public policy. Specifically, I hope to continue helping to transform education campus’ to become more sustainable from a real estate perspective. I have always enjoyed connecting people, sharing ideas, and learning from others across the industry. IPFA’s greatest strength is its ability to bring together professionals from different disciplines and viewpoints, and I look forward to helping foster those connections, encouraging engagement among newer professionals, and contributing to thoughtful discussions about the future of infrastructure in North America.
