The IEA projects that DC energy consumption globally will grow to 945TWh per year by 2030. Meeting demand will require a diverse range of energy assets (including renewable energy, nuclear, battery storage, and natural gas) and a diverse range of solutions (including public grid, private wires, private networks and PPAs).

From a construction and operation perspective, energy efficiency must be prioritised and integrated into every layer of DC design and operation.

IPFA brings together energy and infrastructure professionals from around the world and the intersection of DCs and energy transition is at the top of the global agenda over the next five years.

Group objectives

  • Sharing best practice between DC operators an energy companies and energy providers and advisors
  • Helping members from these parallel industries understand each other’s energy challenges & aspirations, to facilitate the coordination between them to each achieve bankable projects
  • Exploring opportunities to standardise and create market practice, including approaches to private wires, private networks, and PPAs for DCs
  • Creating stronger networks between IPFA members and the incubation of investment opportunities
