Riley O’Connor from QIC, joins our Australia Future Leaders Network Committee

We are pleased to welcome on board Riley O’Connor, Associate at QIC, as a new member of our Future Leaders Committee in Australia:

Our APAC Operations Manager, Samantha Best, recently caught up with Riley to get to know him better:

Sam: If you could personally change or influence one thing within infrastructure and/or energy, what would it be?

Riley: I’d streamline planning and approval processes, so critical infrastructure can move from concept to delivery faster, without compromising quality. This could create greater certainty in infrastructure delivery, making it easier for private capital to invest with confidence, and provide earlier benefits to communities.

Sam: Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to yourself at the start of your career?

Riley: Whilst technical skills are important, soft skills will accelerate your career. Focus less on building pitchbooks / spreadsheets, and more on building relationships, networks and personal brand. Never underestimate the power of generosity (and regular coffees)!

Sam: What do you hope to bring to the Australia Future Leaders Committee?

Riley: Having worked across private markets and advisory in private and public sectors, I’ve been fortunate to develop insight into private and public perspectives in infrastructure investment.

In addition, I’ve had the privilege of exposure across both domestic and international infrastructure, including in Queensland.

I’m looking to bring these perspectives to the Future Leaders Committee. I’m excited to assist the organisation in harnessing a network of future infrastructure professionals to deliver sustainable growth in the infrastructure sector.
