New Australia Future Leaders Network Committee Member from NSW Treasury
We are pleased to welcome on board Hugh Montgomery NSW Treasury, as a Australia Future Leaders Network Committee Member:
We asked Hugh a few questions to get to know him a bit better:
- If you could personally change or influence one thing within infrastructure and/or energy, what would it be?
If I could influence one thing within infrastructure and/or energy, it would be to contribute to the transition towards renewable energy generation, transmission and storage. If I could use my career to play at least a very small part in the renewable energy transition, I would be happy. I think there is a seismic shift occurring in Australia as we move towards renewable energy, and this will require a lot of thinking, innovation and capital – if I could play a positive part in this transition that would be excellent.
- Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to yourself at the start of your career?
I would advise myself to take my time, and approach my career with a “growth mindset”. A career is never a linear progression, and taking the time to develop the right skillset, and learn what kinds of work you do and don’t like, will (hopefully) pay off in the long run.
- What do you hope to bring to the FLN Committee?
I hope to bring to the FLN Committee my experience of working in government on major infrastructure projects, such as the renewable energy zones in NSW and the metro lines in Sydney, and my background as a lawyer. I look forward to making a positive contribution to some of the social and learning opportunities offered by IPFA.
