New Australia Future Leaders Network Committee Member from Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance

We are pleased to welcome on board Gareth Wymond from Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance, as a Australia Future Leaders Network Committee Member:

We asked Gareth, a few questions to get to know him a bit better:

If you could personally change or influence one thing within infrastructure and/or energy, what would it be?
If I could influence one thing within the infrastructure and/or energy space, it would be increasing the level of certainty for the market with respect to the long-term infrastructure pipeline. I believe that enhancing the transparency and predictability around the future opportunities for the private sector is crucial. Especially as it will enable the development of sustainable local delivery markets and the efficient allocation of resources that will be required to meet Australia’s future infrastructure needs.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to yourself at the start of your career?
I would advise myself to slow down and always be curious. A career is rarely linear with lots of unexpected twists and turns along the way. Whilst it is natural to shy away from the unknown, I’ve found that the most interesting career opportunities and learnings have arisen from embracing difficult challenges, trying new things, and asking questions.

What do you hope to bring to the FLN Committee?
I hope to leverage the unique insights (and scars) that I’ve gained from working on a variety of complex and high-profile government infrastructure projects in New South Wales and Victoria over the last 7 years to enhance the learning and networking opportunities offered by IPFA. More generally, I’m looking forward to learning from my fellow Committee members and investigating ways to better align industry expectations with government requirements.
