New Middle East Council Member from KPMG
We are pleased to welcome on board Fernando Faria, Head of Project and Structured Finance, KPMG, as a Middle East Council Member:
We asked Fernando a few questions to get to know him a bit better:
- If you could personally change or influence one thing within infrastructure and/or energy, what would it be?
Infrastructure is the solution to the sustainable development goals and for countries to meet their net zero targets. But infrastructure is also responsible today for more than three quarters of carbon emissions. As infrastructure practitioners we should have a code of conduct that would influence the way we think and develop infrastructure so that the sector plays its part in solving the world’s biggest problems.
- Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to yourself at the start of your career?
It took me too long to understand the challenges the world is facing because of climate change and the role that infrastructure plays for the good and for the bad. I wish I knew this 30 years ago when I first started my career and that I could have used my work then to influence others.
- What do you hope to bring to this Council?
1. Global experience; 2. Alignment of interests; 3. Passion about infrastructure and ESG; 4. Desire to make a difference; 5. Focus in KSA where IPFA is not very much present
