IPFA is committed to driving and supporting change with respect to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in the infrastructure and energy industry. In support of this we will be holding events, sharing thought leadership and conducting interviews with leading figures in our global network who are championing and taking action through DEI initiatives.

About DEI at IPFA

IPFA exists to connect and empower the world of infrastructure and energy, whilst driving continuous change in the industry. The industry needs a collective voice to drive progress, and IPFA helps support that.

Why DEI is important

Ensuring our member facing activities are diverse, equitable and inclusive means we can create a larger and more diverse community of members. Engaging a wider network will be of great value to our members as it will provide access to more experiences and perspectives, and new ideas and better learning; ultimately offering more opportunities for progression in the industry. Moreover, being inclusive is implicit in the purpose of IPFA, as we can only connect and empower the whole world of infrastructure and energy if we have an offering that serves all members.

Being diverse, equitable and inclusive for our members means we need to apply the same standards to our internal practices and staff. Improving DEI in IPFA’s internal practices will give the organisation access to a greater talent pool, in turn bringing a competitive edge to our operations, increasing employee engagement and bringing more successful business outcomes.

Our DEI commitment

We must understand how our DEI strategy can best support our members, the individuals from within our membership, and the communities we serve. In order to achieve those strategic priorities, we commit to:

  • Continuously work to improve our internal practices, policies, objectives, and strategies to ensure we are advocating equality and inclusivity in a proactive way, and reflecting the progress of DEI in society and the needs of the industry.
  • Attract a more diverse slate of applications for staff positions, and for our Board, Councils and Committees, to better represent the communities that make up our membership, and improve our diversity of thought.
  • Be an ally to all the individuals who make up our membership by listening to member experiences and encouraging feedback in order to learn from, develop and support a diverse, equitable and inclusive membership.
  • Look for ways to offer support to our members in achieving their DEI goals.
  • Have a positive and long-term impact on the experiences of our diverse community of members, and on member approaches to DEI.
